About the forum

The Future Payments Forum looks at where mass-consumer retail payments are heading, and how those changes will affect merchants across transport, retail, travel, e-commerce, higher education and government.

Each meeting brings together speakers from a wide range of disciplines and organisations to share their view of how payment methods are likely to evolve, over a timeframe that fits real planning and investment decisions. Every angle is in scope: technology, regulation, consumer protection, economics and security.

Just as importantly, the forum gives the organisations that depend on these services, such as transport operators and retailers, a place to set out what they will need in future. That helps suppliers, regulators and card schemes shape their product roadmaps around real requirements.

Meetings are held under the Chatham House Rule, so contributions can be frank and specific. Each meeting is followed by networking drinks and canapés.

Across the year, the programme moves from a scan of the current market and emerging trends, through the needs of specific parts of the market and how well suppliers can meet them, towards a considered view of payments three to five years out.
